"Unable to initialize" error when I try to run JBrute.

Q:  I've installed JBrute, but when I run it, I get one or more error messages referring to "Unable to initialize."  What's the problem?

A: You don't have "Asian Language Support" installed.  This is part of all modern Windows OSs but is NOT installed by default.  You need to install it. Here's how:

Start Menu / Settings / Regional Options / Languages / Install files for East Asian Languages (this for XP, other Windows OSs are similar).

More Info.

The data files that contain the dictionary and the examples are encoded in SJIS and EUC_JP code pages.  Unless you install Asian Language support, these code pages are not availble to your (Western version of) Windows OS and so JBrute can't read the files it needs.  To let you know, it says something like this:

Unable to Initialize EDict file C:\program files\JBrute\Jbrute\dictionaries\edict (return code -5)
